What PC Do I Need to Run GTA 6?

Grand Theft Auto VI lands on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026, a date Take-Two's CEO has confirmed more than once, at $79.99. It will run at a 30 fps target on every console, the PS5 Pro included, with no performance mode promised. And there is no PC version. Not delayed, not dated, not announced. Rockstar has named no storefront and published no requirements.
So "what PC do I need to run GTA 6" has an honest first answer, which is that nobody outside Rockstar knows, and a useful second answer, which is that the console tells you a lot and Rockstar's own history tells you the rest. This page does both, and then splits in two: one path if you want to buy a finished machine, one if you want to build it. Every price on it was checked on September 23 through Amazon's product API or our own parts catalog.
What the console version tells you
A PS5 is an eight-core Zen 2 processor at around 3.5 GHz with a graphics chip in the neighbourhood of a Radeon RX 6700. That is the machine GTA 6 was built to hit 30 fps on. The PS5 Pro has a much stronger GPU and the same CPU, and Rockstar has not promised it 60 fps either. Read those two facts together and the shape of the PC requirement is already visible: this is a game that leans on the processor, and doubling the console's frame rate is going to take more than a faster graphics card.
Rockstar's ports back that up. GTA V on PC in 2015 was famously CPU-hungry in the city, and Red Dead Redemption 2's PC version rewarded strong single-thread performance over anything else. A dense simulation of a state full of people, traffic and physics is the kind of workload where a Ryzen 7 with 3D V-Cache earns its price and a budget six-core does not.
On timing, PCWorld did the math on September 15: Red Dead Redemption 2 took thirteen months to reach PC, GTA V took nineteen, L.A. Noire six. Their best guess is the 2027 holidays, with a range that stretches into 2028. Ours is the same. Whatever you buy today will be a year older when the port lands, and possibly a GPU generation older.
What our estimator predicts
We keep a GTA 6 profile in the FPS calculator so you can put your own pairing against it, and it is labelled a prediction on the page because it is one: an estimate built from the console target and the demand of Rockstar's last two engines, not from anything measured. With that caveat stated plainly, the ranges it produces at high settings are:
| Pairing | 1080p | 1440p | 4K |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ryzen 5 5600 + RTX 3060 12GB | 54-74 | 40-54 | 24-32 |
| Ryzen 5 5600 + RTX 5060 8GB | 67-91 | 49-67 | 30-40 |
| Ryzen 5 7600X + RX 9060 XT 16GB | 65-89 | 48-64 | 28-38 |
| Ryzen 5 7600X + RTX 5060 Ti 16GB | 76-102 | 55-75 | 33-45 |
| Ryzen 7 7800X3D + RTX 5070 | 86-116 | 63-85 | 37-51 |
| Ryzen 7 7800X3D + RX 9070 XT | 88-120 | 65-87 | 38-52 |
| Ryzen 7 9800X3D + RTX 5070 Ti | 92-124 | 66-90 | 40-54 |
| Ryzen 7 9800X3D + RTX 5080 | 98-132 | 71-97 | 43-57 |
| Ryzen 7 9800X3D + RTX 5090 | 105-141 | 76-102 | 45-61 |
The tiers that fall out of that, and that both paths below are organised around:
- 1080p at 60: a current 60-class card and any decent six-core. This is the console experience doubled.
- 1440p at 60: a 16GB card in the 5060 Ti, RX 9070 or 5070 class with a Ryzen 7 or Core i5-K.
- 1440p high-refresh or 4K at 60: an X3D processor and a 9070 XT or 5070 Ti. This is where the CPU line stops being optional.
- No compromise: a 9800X3D with a 5080 or 5090, and the admission that even our optimistic model does not put 4K at 60 on anything below a 5080.
Two rules hold across every tier. Sixteen gigabytes of video memory, because an open world that streams a city off an SSD is the exact workload where 8GB runs out in ways an average frame rate hides. And 32GB of system RAM, because GTA V asked for 8GB in 2015 and Red Dead asked for 12GB in 2019, and the line only moves one way.
Now pick your path.
Which way are you leaning?
Path A: buy a prebuilt
Prebuilt prices moved a lot this summer. Every machine here was re-checked on September 23 through Amazon's product API, and the price on each card is that day's number; the ones that had gone unavailable or jumped to a single third-party seller were cut. Where the seller is Amazon itself we say so, because on a $2,000 machine that is the difference between Amazon's return window and a stranger's.
Before any of them, the five-line prebuilt checklist still applies: the listing must name the power supply, the motherboard chipset, the exact GPU variant (8GB or 16GB), the RAM speed and the SSD type. A machine that names all five has nothing to hide. A machine that lists "16GB RAM, 1TB SSD" and stops is hiding something.
Entry tier: 1080p at 60, around $1,100 to $1,300
These are RTX 5060 machines. The 5060 is an 8GB card, which is the one compromise at this price, and it is a real one for a game like this. If your budget can stretch to the next tier, stretch. If it cannot, these are sold by Amazon and they clear the console comfortably at 1080p.
1440p tier: around $1,600 to $2,000
The band where the 16GB cards live and where a prebuilt starts making sense against building. The Alienware pair are Amazon-sold and name their parts; the ZOTAC with a 5060 Ti 16GB and 32GB of RAM is the most complete spec sheet in the tier; the Andromeda is the only 9070 XT under $1,900 we found still in stock, sold by the builder rather than Amazon.
High tier: 1440p high-refresh, around $2,100 to $2,600
This is the tier we would buy for GTA 6, because it is the first one with an X3D processor, and the CPU is the part the console version is telling you to care about. The Skytech is Amazon-sold at a price our own parts list for the same CPU and GPU cannot beat this month.
No-compromise tier: around $3,200 to $3,600
A 9800X3D with an RTX 5080 is the pairing our model puts closest to 4K at 60 without upscaling, and it is the last tier where a prebuilt is priced like a purchase rather than a statement.
The prebuilt bottom line
Buy the tier that matches the resolution you play at today, not the one you imagine for a game arriving in late 2027. Prefer the Amazon-sold listings. And read the GPU line twice: 5060 Ti and 5070 both come in variants, and the 16GB one is the one that survives a Rockstar port.
When to spend the money
The part both paths share is the opinion this page exists to give. Do not buy a PC for GTA 6 in September 2026. Buy one for the games you play now, and if you do, buy the version of it that will still be fine in late 2027: strong CPU, 16GB card, 32GB of RAM, NVMe. That machine runs everything on Steam today and it will run the port when the port comes.
What we cannot tell you is what Rockstar will ask for, because Rockstar has not told anyone. Our GTA 6 profile is a prediction and it is labelled one. When the requirements land we will replace the guesses on this page with the sheet, re-rate the profile, and say which of these tiers we got wrong.
Short version
- Consoles November 19, 2026, $79.99, 30 fps target on all of them. PC: not announced. Rockstar's ports have taken six to nineteen months; late 2027 is the sensible bet.
- The console is CPU-limited, so the PC requirement will lean on the processor. Plan an X3D chip for anything above 1440p at 60.
- 16GB of video memory and 32GB of RAM at every tier. Non-negotiable for a streaming open world.
- Prebuilt: Amazon-sold Skytech 7800X3D + 9070 XT at around $2,100 is the machine to beat. Entry starts around $1,100.
- Build: AM5 at every tier so the CPU can be upgraded when the port arrives. Price it on the generator, not on a number in an article.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the GTA 6 PC system requirements?
There are none. As of September 23, 2026, Rockstar has not announced a PC version of Grand Theft Auto VI, named a PC storefront, or published any requirements. The game launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026. Everything on this page is inferred from the console target and Rockstar's previous ports, and it says so where it applies.
When is GTA 6 coming to PC?
Rockstar has not said. Its history is the only guide: Red Dead Redemption 2 reached PC thirteen months after consoles, GTA V took nineteen months, L.A. Noire six. PCWorld's math on those gaps puts the likeliest window in late 2027, and a range of late 2027 to late 2028. Plan on at least a year after November 19, 2026.
Will GTA 6 run at 60 fps?
On consoles, reporting in August 2026 said Rockstar is targeting 30 fps on PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X and Series S at launch, with no performance mode promised and the studio undecided on adding one later. The PS5 Pro does not change that because its CPU is the same as the base PS5, which is a strong hint the limit is CPU-side. On PC, 60 fps and above will come down to your processor as much as your graphics card.
Should I buy a PC now for GTA 6?
Not for GTA 6 alone. The PC version is probably a year or more away, and a card bought today for a game that has not been announced is a card bought for the wrong reasons. Buy or build now if you want a PC for the games out now, and if you do, pick the parts that will still clear GTA 6 when it arrives: a strong CPU, 16GB of video memory, 32GB of RAM and an NVMe drive.
Is it cheaper to build a PC or buy a prebuilt for GTA 6?
In September 2026 it is close, and it flips tier by tier. Component prices are high and moving, so several Amazon-sold prebuilts land within a couple hundred dollars of the same parts bought separately, and some undercut them. Building still wins on part quality you control and an upgrade path you own. The two paths on this page price both ways at every tier.
