Where the recommendation comes from

Every GPU in our database carries a 0-100 gaming score derived from aggregate benchmark performance, the same score our bottleneck calculator uses. We map that score to what the card can sustain, not what it can technically output: a card that scores 70 will drive a 4K signal just fine, but only at frame rates you would not enjoy, so we call 4K "capable" for it and point you at 1440p instead. Your play style then shifts the weighting - competitive players get pushed toward refresh rate, immersive players toward resolution, because a 240Hz panel is wasted on someone playing Baldur's Gate and a 4K 60Hz panel is a handicap in Valorant.

Ideal means the card sustains that resolution and refresh range in current games at high settings - buy this tier with confidence. Capable means it works today with some settings compromise, and the monitor will outlive your current GPU (a fine plan if you upgrade cards more often than screens - most people do). Stretch means the math technically allows it but we would not spend money on it: you are buying pixels your card cannot feed. If your result shows 4K as a stretch, that is the tool telling you a better 1440p panel beats a worse 4K one at the same price, every time.
